The Czech Lion Awards and the Czech Film Critics Awards Have Revealed Their Nominations for the Film Electra
The Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) presented the nominations for the 31st annual Czech Lion Awards. In the 1st round, the academy members selected nominees from a total of 86 films, including television works, whose common denominator was the premiere in 2023.
Electra, directed by Daria Kashcheeva, can win the Czech Lion in the category of animated films. Other nominees include Filip Kastner’s Dede Is Dead and Filip Pošivač’s Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light.
The nominations for the non-statutory Magnesia Award for the best student film were also announced at the press conference. The prize can be awarded to the animated films Electra (directed by Daria Kashcheeva, FAMU) and Dede is Dead (directed by Philippe Kastner, FAMU), which are also nominated in the category of best animated film, and the short films Doprovázení (directed by Vojtěch Konečný, FAMU), Stuck Together (directed by Anna Wowra, FAMU) and Eighth day (directed by Petr Pylypčuk, FAMU).
Selected nominated films will be available to watch online from February 26 to March 17 at www.ceskylev.cz and at www.dafilms.cz.
A total of eighteen works earned nominations for the Czech Film Critics Awards – from short films to TV series to feature films. Animation is clearly dominating the short film category this year. Daria Kashcheeva’s dynamic Electra tells the story of Electra complex, Philipp Kastner’s emotional Dede Is Dead recalls relationship with a beloved dog, and director Natália Durchánková’s Through the Shards is an animated documentary about overcoming the trauma of sexual violence.
The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Archa Theater in Prague.
