The short animated film Hurikán, directed by Jan Saska and set in Prague’s Žižkov district, won the award for Best Short Film at the 15th Czech Film Critics’ Awards. This black-and-white animated story confirmed the talent of the creative team Jan Saska and Václav Hašek, who worked together on the script.
Hurikán follows the story of the main character, who falls for Bára, a girl from a beer stand. The beer runs out, and Hurikán embarks on a mission to get a new keg. A simple task, if it weren’t taking place in Žižkov, a place that, like Hurikán, is always hungover.
Besides Hurikán, other films also triumphed. The main prize for Best Film went to Amerikánka, directed by Viktor Tauš, which took home three awards in total, including Best Director and Best Production Design. Veronika Lišková’s film Rok vdovy (The Widow’s Year) won two awards, including Best Actress for Pavla Beretová and Best Screenplay for Eugen Liška.
